Themes in Othello Essay Example for Free

Themes in Othello Essay Themes in Othello is that of deception, developed mostly through Iago, who is an arch-deceiver throughout the play. Because he is angry that Othello has passed over him for a promotion, he vows revenge. Playing upon Othello’s jealousy, he deceives him into believing that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio. He also deceives Roderigo, making him believe that Desdemona will tire of Othello and eventually be won by Roderigo. It is Iago’s repeated deceptions that move the plot of the play forward to the ultimate climax and tragedy. Another minor theme of Othello is love, and the play can be considered a romantic tragedy. The play is romantic because it celebrates the marriage of two minds as embodied in Othello and Desdemona. They marry in spite of the protests of Desdemona’s father, and she faithfully follows her husband wherever he is sent. Their romantic marriage, however, is ruined by the villainous machinations of Iago. Othello is eventually led to murder his beloved, turning the romantic play into a tragedy. A third minor theme of Othello revolves around appearance vs. reality. Iago has an honest face, which helps hide his deceitful soul. Othello appears to be strong and courageous, a leading general, but he is easily tricked into fearing that his wife is unfaithful. It appears that Desdemona has left her treasured handkerchief with Cassio; in reality, Emilia has taken it and Iago has planted in on Cassio. Because of Iago’s trickery, it appears to Othello that Desdemona is involved with Cassio; in truth, she is innocent, loving her husband dearly. Throughout the play, Iago is instrumental in making sure that reality is disguised by appearances, which he manipulates. MOOD The predominant mood of the whole play is somber and tragic. Iago works his evil almost from the opening scene, and each new deception that he plans brings greater misery. The tragic gloom that he causes is only occasionally relieved by comedy, provided by Roderigo and the Clown.

The Clanton Gang Essay example -- essays research papers

In the middle and late part of the nineteenth century, the West was a harsh and dangerous place to live. Bar fights and murders were being committed in every town. This was acceptable behavior however in those days. Men settled their problems face-to-face, and normally, the slower man ended up dead. Gunfighting in the West was started and carried on by a group of men known as the Clanton Gang. Old Man Clanton was the leader and founder of gunfighting, his sons carried some of his fights and continued with their own fights, and his last surviving son parted with gunfighting and started his own successful business. Gunfights were common and took place regularly. The earliest gunfighters, or gunslingers, were born in the early 1800’s, and most men got recognition as slingers in the 1850’s. The founder of gunfighting was â€Å"Old Man Clanton†, or N. H. Clanton. In 1816, Newman Haynes "Old Man" Clanton was born in Davidson County, Tennessee. On January 5, 1840 Newman Clanton married Mariah Sexton Kelso in Callaway County, Missouri and together they had five boys and two daughters. John Wesley, Joseph Isaac, Phineas Fay, William Harrison, Alonzo Peter, Mary Elise and Ester Ann made up the Clanton Gang. He did not participate in many gunfights though he instigated many of them. Old Man Clanton took care of business swiftly. If he did not like somebody, he would simply point them out, and one of his sons would provoke an argument and shoot the man down in â€Å"self defense†. Old Man Clanton had formed a â€Å"cowboy party† which consisted of some of the deadliest men in the West. Curley Bill, John Ringo, Tim and Frank McLaury, Joe Hill, Pony Deal, Jim Hughes, Frank Stillwell and many other lieutenants, who had over four hundred frontier outcast under them, formed this group. He stole over $100,000 from ranchers in the south, and anyone who opposed was quickly exterminated. Old Man Clanton’s final days ended with a stolen-cattle drive. While he was passing through Guadeloupe Canyon, he and six other men were ambushed and shot dead out of their saddles. "Old Man" Clanton was buried where he fell in Guadalupe Canyon, New Mexico. Although the leader of the Clanton Gang was dead, the family carried on. Billy and Ike Clanton were two of the participants in the most famous gunfight of all. Randolph-Macon College Essay

I have learned a lot about this college, from my brother attending there for four year. There are many different characteristics that draw me to Randolph-Macon. Football is a plus because I know all the coaches, the characteristics are location, academic, small classes, teacher communication and small liberal arts college, and I believe they will help me succeed in my nest four years. These characteristics can be narrowed to ways that will advance my academic future. One of the characteristics in a college that I am looking for is the actual location. Ashland Virginia is a good small town that would be a good fit to live in for four years. Another reason that, I am looking to go to this college is because my Aunt and Uncle live right near the campus, I can go visit them any time I would like to. The campus is close to a few big cities which I like about it, it is near Richmond, Washington D. C and Norfolk. The school is only a short drive away from Roanoke. Personally, I am not looking for a big college to go too. I like Randolph-Macon because it is a small school with less than 1,200 students. The atmosphere on the campus is beautiful, I love walking through the campus when I visited my brother up there. Also, the reconstruction they are doing is going to be really nice. I have been told from a lot of people that have gone there, that there is a great bond between your classmates. Going to a small college like Randolph-Macon has its advantages that big colleges do not have. Randolph-Macon is a small liberal arts college; it has a wide range of classes that you can choose from. It ranges from guitar class to biology class it all matters what you want to learn. They have a business major that I am interested in. Having a business major, with a background of many other subjects will help me in the long run. Liberal arts will be an exciting challenge. Going Back to Randolph-Macon being that it is a small college it has its advantages. One major advantage that it has is small classes. Having small classes give teachers time to meet one on one with you. Also teachers go more into depth on subjects and always change in class. There are less than 20 people in each of your classes. The academics are nationally known, which is a huge plus. You defiantly get a good degree by going there. The academics part is a major reason why I am applying to this school so I can expand my knowledge with a good degree and get a job after I am done with college. Having small classes allows you to meet your teachers personally and develop communication. The teachers check attendance every day, which helps kids go to class. They have office hours that will work with their student’s schedules. The teacher will get know to know you on a first name bases which is very good in college. I think having big classes is a disadvantage to small classes because the teachers don’t care about you as much. Small classes will aid me because I will get help with classes and learn better. Randolph-Macon has its advantages and I have learned a lot about the from visiting my brother, these advantages are academics, teacher communication, small classes, small liberal arts college. Also knowing someone that went the school there helps me out a lot. The football program is a plus. These characteristics are very important in my decision. This is why I love Randolph-Macon College.

How Valuable Is the A+ Certification

The A certification is one of the most popular certifications in the computer industry and is considered by many to be a valuable starting point in an IT career. That doesn’t necessarily mean, however, that it’s right for everyone.   CompTIA sponsors the A certification, which validates entry-level skills in PC technology. It has a distinct slant toward the expertise needed to troubleshoot computer problems, repair PCs or work as a computer service technician. There are varying opinions on the value of the A certification. Some feel that it’s too easy to get and doesn’t require any real experience, making it of questionable value. Others believe it’s a good way to get that first job in IT. A Certification Value Depends on Career Plans The A certification requires knowledge of not only how a computers internals work, but how to load operating systems, how to troubleshoot hardware issues, and a lot more. Whether it is right for you depends entirely upon your choice of IT career. The A certification can help when you are looking for a career in tech support or servicing computers. However, if you envision a career as a database developer or a PHP programmer, the A certification wont benefit you much. It might help you get an interview if you have it on your resume, but thats about it. Experience vs. Certification Overall, IT professionals care more about experience and skills than certifications, but that doesn’t mean that certifications aren’t taken into account at all. They can play a role in hiring, particularly when there are job candidates with similar backgrounds and experience vying for a job. The certification assures a manager that the certified job seeker has a minimum level of knowledge. However, certification needs to be accompanied on a resume by experience to earn you an interview.   About the A Certification Test The A certification process contains two tests: The hardware technology exam covers PC hardware and peripherals, network connectivity issues, networking and mobile device hardware. The operating systems exam covers the installation and configuration of Windows, iOS, Android, MacOS and Linux. Also included are cloud computing fundamentals, operational procedures and security. CompTIA recommends that participants have 6 to 12 months hands-on experience before taking the test. Each exam includes multiple choice questions, drag and drop questions, and performance-based questions. The exam contains a maximum of 90 questions and a time limit of 90 minutes. You dont need to take a course to prepare for the A certification exam, although you can. There are plenty of self-study options on the internet and available through books you can use instead. The CompTIA website offers its CertMaster online learning tool for sale on its website. It is designed to prepare test-takers for the exam. The CertMaster adjusts its path based on what the person using it already knows. Although  this tool is not free, there is a free trial available.
