Information and Communication Technologies in Education

Introduction Modern educators focus on finding the most appropriate and effective means to teach students and guarantee the active teaching and learning processes. In this case, the developed information and communication technologies (ICT) provide a lot of possibilities to plan and implement the effective teaching and learning methods and techniques.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Information and Communication Technologies in Education specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The sphere of ICT develops quickly, and today there is a range of technologies which can be successfully used in the everyday learning process at school and university. From this perspective, educators choose to integrate ICT into the teaching process because of a variety of advantages associated with the usage of contemporary technologies (Simon Nemeth, 2012). Thus, different ICT which are available for educators can be successfully used to enha nce the learning process, to stimulate students’ skills and abilities, to develop motivation, and to improve students’ performance. It is necessary to pay attention to the effectiveness of using such game-oriented ICT as multi-touch systems and such ICT as vodcasts in different age groups. Although the representatives of various age groups perceive the information presented with the help of ICT in a different way, the levels of the students’ performance and motivation can be discussed as high, and this fact allows speaking about the effectiveness of using different ICT in education. To conclude about the effectiveness of using ICT in the learning and teaching processes, it is necessary to focus on such aspects as the impact of using ICT on students’ learning and motivation, perception, and performance. The Impact of Different ICT on Students’ Learning and Motivation There is no single idea in relation to the effect of ICT on students’ learni ng and motivation because of impossibility to state strictly about the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of traditional teaching methods. ICT are actively used by educators in order to make the material presented more understandable and interesting for students and to stimulate their certain activities. From this point, ICT are used in their combination with the traditional teaching methods and techniques (Ardito et al., 2013). Moreover, appropriate ICT can be selected according to the needs of the age group, topic of the planned activities, and the objective set by an educator.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Modern ICT provide the opportunity to discuss a game as a part of the learning process. Different types of material can be presented to students in various way s. The form of the game based on using ICT provokes the additional interest of students to the activities. As a result, the usage of ICT can be considered as the additional motivator for students who become involved in the learning process (Ardito et al., 2013). To guarantee the understanding of the material and the development of definite skills, educators combine the methods of traditional teaching with ICT. This technique allows making the teaching process complete. The focus only on a game, ICT, or traditional methods cannot provide the effective results of the students’ learning process (Sluis Nijholt, 2012). Moreover, this situation can lead to decreasing students’ motivation and interest in the process. That is why, the complex approach is more advantageous. Thus, the historic material presented in the form of a game based on the multi-touch system is learnt by students more actively (Ardito et al., 2013). Students studying at high school, college, university, or student teachers can develop their motivation and improve learning with the help of more progressive or complex ICT. Different kinds of computers, computer programs, podcasts, and vodcasts are used to improve the teaching and learning processes. The development of new technologies provides new opportunities and previous effective technologies can be discussed as out-of-date. Thus, today vodcasts are discussed as more effective than podcasts which were actively used in education years ago. Vodcasts can provide students with more materials, information, and stimuli than podcasts (McNeill Fry, 2012). Students need illustration and demonstration in order to follow certain instructions and perform definite activities. In this case, such ICT as vodcasts function as illustration for students in order to provide them with the certain knowledge. Multi-media systems can be used effectively when an educator uses the appropriate instruction (Sluis Nijholt, 2012).Advertising We will wr ite a custom essay sample on Information and Communication Technologies in Education specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For instance, vodcasts can be ineffective to stimulate students’ learning process if they are not provided with the appropriate instruction to control students’ activities (McNeill Fry, 2012). The Effects of ICT on Students’ Perception Students are inclined to react more actively to vivid and interesting objects or materials which attract their attention immediately. The students’ interest in relation to the material can guarantee their further high performance regarding this or that subject. That is why, educators should focus on methods to stimulate students’ perception and reaction to the information and new knowledge. ICT can be discussed as the rather effective means to influence students’ perception (Ardito et al., 2013). Students’ perception is based on analyzing the new information and on its comparison with the knowledge with exists in students’ minds and memory. Thus, the new information is perceived during several stages, and these stages do not depend on the form of information perceived. However, the abilities of students to perceive this or that kind of information presented in the form of written text, audio, or an image are often different because students have various dominating types of perception (McNeill, Mukherjee, Singh, 2012). Nevertheless, different ICT can contribute to the development of students perception abilities in spite of the kind of the information presented. Thus, game activities involve the usage of the written text, images, and audio, and the students’ concentration increases as well as the participation in the learning process can become more active (Ardito et al., 2013). Such technologies as multi-media systems and vodcasts can contribute to students’ active participation in the learning process because they depend on the diverse presentation of information. From this point, the students’ reaction should be also active. The technology-based learning is discussed as more informal and active. Thus, students become the centre of the learning process, and they can use all the advantages provided by modern information technologies (Ardito et al., 2013). The informal learning with using the Internet, multi-media systems, podcasts, and vodcasts is more attractive for students because of their possibility to participate in the process more actively and consciously.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More For instance, attending lectures and seminars, students can prepare the vodcasts independently (McNeill Fry, 2012). Modern technologies can be considered as providing more opportunities for teachers to improve their strategy and for students to improve their skills and abilities. Students’ interest and understanding of the material can be influenced by using different resources and methods. Educational games, puzzles, quizzes, and tests can be presented not only with the help of traditional teaching techniques but also with the help of modern technologies which expand the range of variants for using this or that resource, method, or technique. Multi-touch displays, online educational games, online tests, podcasts, and vodcasts can be effective to change the approach to teaching and learning processes (Ardito et al., 2013). Furthermore, the usage of ICT stimulates communication between students, and this fact is advantageous for completing group and team tasks effectively. Th us, ICT can stimulate students’ perception with references to using resources and technologies which help apply the academic material to the real world situation. The Connection between Using ICT and Students’ Academic Performance Those technologies which are used in the classroom environments are oriented to develop students’ abilities and to improve students’ performance. Thus, the usage of ICT in education can be discussed as ineffective approach if students’ performance is not affected positively with references to technologies. That is why, researchers focus on examining changes in students’ performance depending on the frequency of using different technologies in the classroom. According to Ardito and the group of researchers, positive trends connected with increasing students’ results and improvement of their performance are observed after several weekends of the regular usage of ICT in the classroom environments in order to pr ovide certain material, present instruction, and stimulate activities (Ardito et al., 2013). It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that such ICT as multi-touch displays and systems are effective to promote and control a lot of everyday classroom activities which are usually associated with using many resources. From this point, these technologies not only influence students’ performance positively but also minimize the resources used by an educator along with maximizing positive effects. The changes in the students’ performance can be discussed with references to such aspects as changes in students’ learning activities, perception, and behaviour. Thus, the integration of ICT affects the teaching and learning processes as complexes, and high performance is the result of changes in the students’ understanding or comprehending the material. The assessment of students’ performance allows drawing conclusions about the general effectiveness of usi ng ICT in education. Simon and Nemeth focus on the fact that the alternations in performance can be directly associated with the changes in the students’ attitude toward the learning process (Simon Nemeth, 2012). The concentration on informal learning provokes students’ positive attitude and interest because of decreasing the stress and making the process more diverse. The improved performance is also connected with the concept of self-improvement. Thus, using vodcasts and online materials, students receive the opportunity to assess their successes independently and pay attention to the moments which should be changed or improved (McNeill Fry, 2012). From this perspective, new technologies help educators make the teaching process more focused on students. Individualization is one of the main characteristic features of the modern approaches in education (Ardito et al., 2013). ICT with a range of opportunities provided respond to the needs of the modern education orien ted to students and stimulation of their successes in study. Educators use ICT in order to differentiate instruction and reduce those forms of explanation which can decrease students’ attention and concentration on the object of discussion. ICT are appropriate to be used at different stages of the teaching process and to control the students’ involvement into activities (Ardito et al., 2013). This feature of ICT also works for the benefits of students because they can participate actively in the process during all the stages without reducing concentration and attention. For instance, focusing on vodcasts, students can improve their performance while analyzing their mistakes and paying attention to achievements (McNeill Fry, 2012). The communication based on ICT with the other students can also stimulate their motivation and activities with improving performance results. Conclusion The evaluation of ICT usage in the field of education can be possible only with referenc es to assessing changes in the students’ performance and to appropriateness of the techniques for helping teachers realize set objectives. ICT are important to be used in the field of education because researchers predict that further changes in the sphere will be closely associated with the development of new technologies with improved and extended functions. The focus on using ICT in combination with the methods of traditional teaching and learning can be rather effective for the development of students’ perception and performance. It is important to note that modern technologies can be effectively used by educators not only for improving the teaching strategies but also for stimulating students’ motivation. From this point, it is necessary to choose technologies which can be used successfully in different classroom environments depending on the students’ age category. ICT in education can affect the changes in approaches to developing education strateg ies. If ICT are used appropriately, they contribute to maximizing the advantages of the teaching and learning processes. That is why, further research is significant in order to focus on the most effective ways to integrate ICT in education to receive the highest results. MLA Referencing †Citing Ebooks

MLA Referencing – Citing Ebooks MLA Referencing – Citing Ebooks The days when â€Å"book† immediately implied a physical, papery object are now behind us. Many students, for example, now use ebooks in research. After all, they’re easy to access, and you can carry around an entire library without suffering any risk of a broken back! Once upon a time, it would have taken an entire building to store all the books on here. But referencing ebooks in MLA can be complicated, since it depends on whether you’re talking about an ebook accessed via an e-reader or found online. In this post, we look at how to do both. In-Text Citations Thankfully, the actual citations for an ebook are the same no matter where you found it, requiring only that you give the author’s surname and the page number(s) of the section being cited: The rise of the ebook has resulted in an increase in self-published works (Falco 44). Of course, not all ebooks feature page numbers. In such cases, you can use a chapter, section and/or paragraph number instead: Falco claims that self-published writing often â€Å"suffers from a lack of editing† (ch. 4, par. 2). However, this only applies when the book contains chapter and/or paragraph numbers. If none are available, simply leave them out of citations. (Ebooks Accessed Via an e-Reader) When an ebook is only accessible via an e-reader or software on your computer, MLA referencing treats it as a specific edition of a print book. As such, the format to use in the â€Å"† list is as follows: Author Surname, First Name. Title. Ebook. Publisher, year of publication. In practice, a full reference for an ebook would look something like this: Falco, Andrew. The Death of Print. Ebook. PMP Publications, 2013. While â€Å"ebook† is acceptable if the source isn’t in a specific format, usually you’ll want to include more detail about the version consulted here. You should also include any other information about the edition here. For example, the second edition of the Kindle version of a book would be listed as: Falco, Andrew. The Death of Print. 2nd ed., Kindle. PMP Publications, 2015. (Ebooks Accessed Online) For online editions of a book (i.e., books accessible via the internet rather than an e-reader), the format is a little different. The key thing to remember is that references for online books require a database and DOI or URL through which they can be accessed: Author Surname, First Name. Title. Publisher, year of publication. Database, DOI/URL. As such, the reference for an online book would be more like the following: Morris, William. The Art of Printing. H. M. O’Kane, 1902. Project Gutenberg, www.gutenberg.org/files/31596/31596-h/31596-h.htm. But will ebooks ever be this pretty?

A 3000 Portfolio Assignment - Essay Example For instance, leagile might involve the use of lean strategies for managing the supply of high volume products that are also in high demand and opting to use agile (make-to-order) for every other thing (Pagell and Shevchenko, 2014, p. 50). The leagile system can also opt to have a flexible production capacity with the purpose of meeting demand surges or unexpected needs/requirements. Alternatively, leagile might involve postponing whereby forecasting is done using â€Å"platform† or essential products, and then the final customer order would determine the final configuration and assembly of products (Selviaridis and Norrman, 2014, p. 160). The case study for which we will use to analyse the leagile system of management is the Toyota Company particularly in the manufacture of its Scion line of cars. The Toyota Motor Corporation is an automobile manufacturer situated in Japan with its headquarters in the city of Toyota, Aichi. As of the last financial quarter of 2014, Toyota was the largest multinational company in the world in terms of revenue. Collecting Waste Recyclable Products and Different Projects Essay - 7

Collecting Waste Recyclable Products and Different Projects - Essay Example The project managed to collect as much as forty million pounds of waste materials in this year. The project only concentrated on moving around the Terre community and collecting waste material that is recyclable and delivering it to the enterprise for recycling. As a recycling facility, Indiana State University started out with a Wastage Management department in 1990. This department, at the time, comprised of two old cubic yard compactor trucks, five employees and a Cushman truck. The knowledge regarding recycling was not as plentiful as it is nowadays. In addition, the department did not have the necessary budget to undertake effective recycling activities. However, this did not deter them from recycling aluminum can which was the recycling trend at the time. Since then, the department has grown by leaps and bounds to its current state. At the moment, ISU recycling activities are recognized by the Indiana community. The program has developed a drop-facility and has started accepting e-Scrap. Its recycling statistics are impressive considering they have recycled more than 2 million pounds to date. The main activity was driving around collecting garbage. We would drive around in trucks and load recyclable materials to the trucks. The materials include plastic bottles except those that carried oil, glass bottles, cardboard, old telephone books and any other recyclable materials and glass containers provided they did not contain Pyrex. While recycling trash and garbage, we learned the procedures of handling solid waste in the county of Indiana. In the state, we learned that the Indiana County Solid Waste Authority was the authority in matters regarding the disposal of solid waste. This authority was formed as part of the county’s compliance with the Pennsylvania Act of 101 of 1988. All members of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has to enforce the  appropriate solid waste disposal techniques.

Themes in Othello Essay Example for Free

Themes in Othello Essay Themes in Othello is that of deception, developed mostly through Iago, who is an arch-deceiver throughout the play. Because he is angry that Othello has passed over him for a promotion, he vows revenge. Playing upon Othello’s jealousy, he deceives him into believing that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio. He also deceives Roderigo, making him believe that Desdemona will tire of Othello and eventually be won by Roderigo. It is Iago’s repeated deceptions that move the plot of the play forward to the ultimate climax and tragedy. Another minor theme of Othello is love, and the play can be considered a romantic tragedy. The play is romantic because it celebrates the marriage of two minds as embodied in Othello and Desdemona. They marry in spite of the protests of Desdemona’s father, and she faithfully follows her husband wherever he is sent. Their romantic marriage, however, is ruined by the villainous machinations of Iago. Othello is eventually led to murder his beloved, turning the romantic play into a tragedy. A third minor theme of Othello revolves around appearance vs. reality. Iago has an honest face, which helps hide his deceitful soul. Othello appears to be strong and courageous, a leading general, but he is easily tricked into fearing that his wife is unfaithful. It appears that Desdemona has left her treasured handkerchief with Cassio; in reality, Emilia has taken it and Iago has planted in on Cassio. Because of Iago’s trickery, it appears to Othello that Desdemona is involved with Cassio; in truth, she is innocent, loving her husband dearly. Throughout the play, Iago is instrumental in making sure that reality is disguised by appearances, which he manipulates. MOOD The predominant mood of the whole play is somber and tragic. Iago works his evil almost from the opening scene, and each new deception that he plans brings greater misery. The tragic gloom that he causes is only occasionally relieved by comedy, provided by Roderigo and the Clown.

The Clanton Gang Essay example -- essays research papers

In the middle and late part of the nineteenth century, the West was a harsh and dangerous place to live. Bar fights and murders were being committed in every town. This was acceptable behavior however in those days. Men settled their problems face-to-face, and normally, the slower man ended up dead. Gunfighting in the West was started and carried on by a group of men known as the Clanton Gang. Old Man Clanton was the leader and founder of gunfighting, his sons carried some of his fights and continued with their own fights, and his last surviving son parted with gunfighting and started his own successful business. Gunfights were common and took place regularly. The earliest gunfighters, or gunslingers, were born in the early 1800’s, and most men got recognition as slingers in the 1850’s. The founder of gunfighting was â€Å"Old Man Clanton†, or N. H. Clanton. In 1816, Newman Haynes "Old Man" Clanton was born in Davidson County, Tennessee. On January 5, 1840 Newman Clanton married Mariah Sexton Kelso in Callaway County, Missouri and together they had five boys and two daughters. John Wesley, Joseph Isaac, Phineas Fay, William Harrison, Alonzo Peter, Mary Elise and Ester Ann made up the Clanton Gang. He did not participate in many gunfights though he instigated many of them. Old Man Clanton took care of business swiftly. If he did not like somebody, he would simply point them out, and one of his sons would provoke an argument and shoot the man down in â€Å"self defense†. Old Man Clanton had formed a â€Å"cowboy party† which consisted of some of the deadliest men in the West. Curley Bill, John Ringo, Tim and Frank McLaury, Joe Hill, Pony Deal, Jim Hughes, Frank Stillwell and many other lieutenants, who had over four hundred frontier outcast under them, formed this group. He stole over $100,000 from ranchers in the south, and anyone who opposed was quickly exterminated. Old Man Clanton’s final days ended with a stolen-cattle drive. While he was passing through Guadeloupe Canyon, he and six other men were ambushed and shot dead out of their saddles. "Old Man" Clanton was buried where he fell in Guadalupe Canyon, New Mexico. Although the leader of the Clanton Gang was dead, the family carried on. Billy and Ike Clanton were two of the participants in the most famous gunfight of all. Randolph-Macon College Essay

I have learned a lot about this college, from my brother attending there for four year. There are many different characteristics that draw me to Randolph-Macon. Football is a plus because I know all the coaches, the characteristics are location, academic, small classes, teacher communication and small liberal arts college, and I believe they will help me succeed in my nest four years. These characteristics can be narrowed to ways that will advance my academic future. One of the characteristics in a college that I am looking for is the actual location. Ashland Virginia is a good small town that would be a good fit to live in for four years. Another reason that, I am looking to go to this college is because my Aunt and Uncle live right near the campus, I can go visit them any time I would like to. The campus is close to a few big cities which I like about it, it is near Richmond, Washington D. C and Norfolk. The school is only a short drive away from Roanoke. Personally, I am not looking for a big college to go too. I like Randolph-Macon because it is a small school with less than 1,200 students. The atmosphere on the campus is beautiful, I love walking through the campus when I visited my brother up there. Also, the reconstruction they are doing is going to be really nice. I have been told from a lot of people that have gone there, that there is a great bond between your classmates. Going to a small college like Randolph-Macon has its advantages that big colleges do not have. Randolph-Macon is a small liberal arts college; it has a wide range of classes that you can choose from. It ranges from guitar class to biology class it all matters what you want to learn. They have a business major that I am interested in. Having a business major, with a background of many other subjects will help me in the long run. Liberal arts will be an exciting challenge. Going Back to Randolph-Macon being that it is a small college it has its advantages. One major advantage that it has is small classes. Having small classes give teachers time to meet one on one with you. Also teachers go more into depth on subjects and always change in class. There are less than 20 people in each of your classes. The academics are nationally known, which is a huge plus. You defiantly get a good degree by going there. The academics part is a major reason why I am applying to this school so I can expand my knowledge with a good degree and get a job after I am done with college. Having small classes allows you to meet your teachers personally and develop communication. The teachers check attendance every day, which helps kids go to class. They have office hours that will work with their student’s schedules. The teacher will get know to know you on a first name bases which is very good in college. I think having big classes is a disadvantage to small classes because the teachers don’t care about you as much. Small classes will aid me because I will get help with classes and learn better. Randolph-Macon has its advantages and I have learned a lot about the from visiting my brother, these advantages are academics, teacher communication, small classes, small liberal arts college. Also knowing someone that went the school there helps me out a lot. The football program is a plus. These characteristics are very important in my decision. This is why I love Randolph-Macon College.
